The Season of Lent 2023
Lent is often a time when we prepare our hearts for a roller coaster ride. The gut dropping feeling when we recall our past sins and mistakes, the thrill of looking upward and knowing they are all forgiven, the heart ache remembering Christ Jesus’ betrayal, bad politics, cruel torment and death, and that joyous resurrection morning.
Phew! Sign me up! Our emotions may have been on autopilot just to get through pandemic and everything that went with it. As we leave this traumatic historic event behind, we can heal, and feel our feelings once more.
Caution: feelings can be strong and over whelming, especially if they have been held down for a long time. Have you read any of the Psalms lately? Oh my, the range of feelings described!
The first time I saw one of those “emotion charts” that serve us now as smiley faced emojis of every type and style, I was perplexed. Just exactly how did I feel?
Life is so much more than Happy and Sad. The range of our ability to feel love, care for others, experience anger, shame or pure delight is so vast.
Our Lord created us with so much more than just an on and off switch for emotions. Let Him bless you this Lenten Season with Joy - in all its forms - and diverse experiences. Resurrection has come, and we will remember it’s power once more. Jesus offers Joy, Healing, Peace, Direction, and the list goes on.
Let Him love you and fill you with Joy this Lenten Season of 2023 for we are all Called to Serve, and we can do it with Joy!
